Training Band

The Training Band has always had links to local schools and is ready to welcome players of any age and ability. There is a wonderful sense of energy and optimism on Monday evenings.

The Training Band meets on Monday evenings and is split into two groups: Complete Beginners who meet at 5.45pm and Intermediates who meet at 6.15pm.

It has often been the case that parents have taken up learning an instrument and enjoying the experience of learning to play, as a direct result of taking their child along to the Training Band. It is an ideal way of supplementing your music lessons and it gives you the opportunity to play in groups. Many of our senior band members have progressed through the Training Band and are now holding key positions in the main band.

Training Band subscriptions are £15 per term including instrument hire (where available). If you are interested in finding out more about our Training Band then please email the band secretary: .

Our Child Protection Policy is available to download.

Cornet Player

"The training band is really nice. I meet up with the same people every week. We have a lot of fun and play some lovely music. We sometimes play in concerts and for the old people's home. I practice with my Dad in the evenings. I can really notice the improvement when I come to band and I've practiced at home. Our teacher is really kind. It doesn't matter if I make a mistake, she just tells me how to play it right the next time."

Baritone Player

"Playing in the band is just so cool. We play current music as well as classical. I have lots of friends at the band. I look forward to it every week. The time just goes past so quickly. The teacher helps me a lot. When we play at concerts it can be a bit scary, but it feels really good once I start playing. I'm allowed to go wrong because then the teacher can show me how to get better. I'm much more confident in my playing. It's great fun!"

Percussionist

"I've just joined the Contest Band. I played in the training band last year. I worked really hard and I have lessons outside the band. The training band was a great introduction to playing in a brass band. The Contest Band is quite a step up, but I get amazing help from people around me. I really feel supported. I'm already playing in concerts and it feels amazing. I still make mistakes, but now I've found out that any player can make a mistake and, as long as you learn from it, things can only get better. This is one of the best things I've ever done."
